I have been researching the DOVASTON name for over ten years
During that time I have amassed a great deal of information from
Census Records, Birth, Marriage & Death Records, Parish Registers, etc.
I will gradually be adding records to this site in the hope
that they may be of use to others.
If you have anything similar you would like to add, please email the information.
I would prefer lists in Excel or other Spreadsheet format.
There are several different pronunciations of DOVASTON
e.g. Dover-ston (dover as the town); Du-vaston ('u' as in up);
Doe-vas-ton; Do-vaston ('o' as in opera).
I use the last option.
True variations in the spelling of the surname, as against mis-spellings,
did not appear until the late 1800s.
These seem to be DOVESTON, DOVEASTON, DOVINSON & DOVESON.
The name can appear with a variety of spellings in official documents.
So far I have found 38!
